Small victories

Overcome [verb] ~ /ˌəʊ.vəˈkʌm/

"succeed in dealing with a problem or difficulty."

Today was one of those days when I thought about my life and the way I have defined success for the past 19 years. In the space of 30 seconds I had an overwhelming realization about what it is that I have set as the main priorities in my life in order to be successful.

Sometimes I take everything I have for granted. Even though I know I have worked hard all my life to be where I am today, it still just feels like something I should have because that is the way things should have turned out for me. Things just happen, right?.

I want to ask you something today. I want you to stop for a second and visualize all the things that have happened in your life that made you the person you are today, and put you in the place you are standing right now. How do you see your life has evolved and how do you feel your decisions, however minuscule they seem, have made you who you are and put you in this place, right now.

All the failures and successes we may have experienced in our lives have prepared us for that one moment when we realize that this is where we are supposed to be, or so we think. We also tend to live thinking about the 'ifs' and the 'maybes' and how they would have shaped our life in different ways.

One thing I realized today, is that we never think about the small victories. Those that seemed futile at the time, but helped shape the person we are today. Success in every area of our life is still success, and maintaining that balance to keep every aspect of our existence 100% full and happy is not something I believe we can ever accomplish. We are humans and we make mistakes, and more importantly, our glass is always half empty.

I want my glass to always be half full, with the small victories I never think about.

19 years ago I never thought about the future, only about the next day.

I never thought about meeting someone, getting a job, having children or getting married. I could not even conceive the importantce of all the things that had to go right for me to have a future here. Yet here I am, perhaps still thinking about the next day, but also wanting to offer my children the best future possible so they don't have to go through all the stuff I had to, or the stuff my parents and grand parents had to go through.

Murphy's law is interpreted as if when something has a chance to go awry, it eventually will. I see it differentely. I see it as if whatever can happen, it will happen. Good or bad.

Our life experiences shape us and create the person we are. With all our faults and qualities. I am not perfect, I don't think anybody is, but I keep trying, even if it takes me down the wrong path and I have to reset myself and try again. I think that is what life is all about, drinking it all in, good and bad.

Think about your small victories, and how they made you who you are.

You will be surprised how they changed your life.

Thanks for reading.
