Inspiration [noun] - /ˌɪnspɪˈreɪʃn/
"the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions."
There are moments in life when we desperately look for something that challenges us. As humans, we tend to seek things we don't really know or understand. We feel empty, but we don't know where that north is. Where it is that we are going.
Today I want to be brief but also want to be punctual.
Inspiration comes in many forms, and when you spend 15 years of your life looking for it, it gets to the point where you don't really know where else to look for it, because like anything in life, it evaporates. It goes away and we struggle to find it.
The reason we struggle to find motivation, in my opinion, is because we are always looking in the same places we have always thought inspiration can come from. We cling to those failures of the past which have given us painful and bad memories. We remember those we have lost and who are no longer with us. We keep alive the feeling we had 15 years ago when we first set foot on a race or sportive, full of fire and desire to do well, full of hope.
This is not totally wrong because these things have given us at the time the tools we needed to succeed. These painful memories and losses have built who we are today and have molded our resilience and discipline. We owe who we are to those feelings. They are not going away, but they get weaker as time drags along and we struggle to find that spark that moves us and challenges us.
Instead of looking at the past, we should look at the future. I find it great to see all the amazing things my children can accomplish. Especially, I want to share with amazement the progress my nephews have made in their short but productive lives and how they now have that desire I once had. They have embarqued on new journeys, which, same as it did to me, will bring them glory and fulfillment, but also pain and suffering. This is the mixture that makes us strong and builds us to face adversity.
I am proud of every single one of them. They are the future, and they are my present. I love them with all my heart and I thank the universe every single day for giving me life to be able to spend time with them, and to express them how much they mean to me.
Dear Andresito, Juampis, Chanti and Chamo,
You inspire me more than you know. You are a true reflection on that mirror I once looked into to find that fire that made me do all the difficult things I have put myself through for the past 15 years.
You demonstrate to me every day the lessons you have learnt from your parents, whom I truly admire and respect, because they have done an amazing job at raising you.
You may not understand now the grand effect you have in your parents life, and in my life, but you will understand one day, when you have children of your own, and you look for your own sources of inspiration.
One day you will look at the heavens and remember all those beautiful memories about your own life, which I hope will include some of mine, and all the things I have and will forever want to share with you and teach you. Every single moment I get to spend with you is beautiful, and it fills me with love and makes me proud to have you in my life.
You are my inspiration kiddos. I can't wait to go out there to race and play some ball with you one day, and try somehow to give you all the life lessons I have experienced at some point in my life.
Thank you for being unique and amazing. You all have something that makes you special.
Never change it, never give up. Be trutful to yourselves and others, and live an amazing life. A happy life.
All my love to you.
Uncle AJ.
